Resources :- Anything that can be used to satisfy a need is a resource. Things become resources only when they have a value.
Patent :- It means the exclusive right over any idea or invention.
Technology :- It is the application of the latest knowledge and skill in doing or making things.
Types of resources:-
(1) Natural Resources:- Drawn from Nature and used without much modification are called natural resources.
For example:– Air, Water, Soils , Minerals etc.
Distribution of natural resources depends upon a number of physical factors like terrain, climate and altitude. Natural resources can be broadly categorised into:-
- Renewable:- Renewable resources are those which get renewed or replenished quickly. For example:– Solar energy, Wind energy etc.
- Non renewable:- Non renewable resources are those which have a limited stock. Once the stocks are exhausted it may take thousands of years to be renewed or replenished. For example:- Coal, Petroleum etc.
(2) Human Made Resources:- Sometimes natural substances become resources only when their original form has been changed. For example:- iron ore was not a resource until people learnt to extract iron from it.
Note:- Technology is also a human made resource.
(3) Human Resources:- People are human resource because they have knowledge, skill and technology to create more resources.
Human resource development:- Improving the quality of people’s skills so that they are able to create more resources is known as human resource development.
Stock of resources:- It is the amount of resources available for use.
Resource Conservation:- Using resources carefully and giving them time to get renewed is called resource conservation.
Sustainable Development:- Balancing the need to use resources and also conserve them for the future is called sustainable development.
Sustainable Development Goals :-
- No poverty
- Zero hunger
- Good health and well being
- Quality education

It is our duty to ensure:-
- All uses of renewable resources are sustainable .
- The damage to natural environmental system is minimised.
- The diversity of life on the earth is conserved.
