India’s major military operations:-
1. Operation Ablaze & Operation Riddle:-
It was India’s Response in 1965 Indo-Pak War. Operation Ablaze Was launched as a preemptive strike during the 1965 Indo-Pak War, followed by Operation Riddle targeting Lahore and Kasur after Pakistan’s violation of the LOC.
2. Operation Jackpot & Operation Cactus Lily:-
During the Bangladesh Liberation War. The operation Jackpot provided logistical support to Bangladeshi freedom fighters during the 1971 Liberation War. Operation Cactus Lily was an air assault to cross the Meghna River and reach Dhaka.
3. Operation Meghdoot:-
In April 1984, India launched Operation Meghdoot to occupy the strategic heights of Siachen Glacier, securing a critical tactical advantage in the Kashmir region.
4. Operation Pawan & Operation Poomalai:- (Indian Peacekeeping Force in Sri Lanka)
- Operation Pawan (1987-90) Was India’s intervention in Sri Lanka to restore peace and disarm the LTTE,
- Operation Poomalai involved the airdrop of supplies to civilians in Jaffna during the siege.
5. Operation Cactus:-
In 1988,India launched Operation Cactus to thwart a military coup in the Maldives, ensuring the nation’s democracy and sovereignty.
6. Operation Vijay:-
In 1999, Operation Vijay was launched to reclaim Indian territory occupied by Pakistani forces during the Kargil War, ensuring India’s victory and national pride.
7. Operation Safed Sagar:-
During the Kargil War, the Indian Air Force carried out airstrikes under Operation Safed Sagar to evict Pakistani troops from Indian positions along the Loc.
8. 2016 Surgical Strikes:-
The surgical strikes were conducted by Indian special forces in response to the Uri attack. The operation targeted terrorist launch pads across the LoC in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
9. Operation Bandar (2019 Balakot Air Strike):-
After the Pulwama terror attack, India carried out Operation Bandar, targeting Jaish-e-Mohammed’s training camp in Balakot, Pakistan, marking a decisive strike against terrorism.
10. Operation Abhyaas:-
Strengthening India’s Civil Defence: On May 7, 2025, India conducts mock drills across 244 districts under Operation Abhyaas, aimed at enhancing emergency preparedness and civil defence readiness.
11. Operation Sindoor:-
Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian Armed Forces recently as a retaliatory precision strike on 21 terror camps across 9 different locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
